What Is Hydro Jetting, and When Is It Used?
Hydro jetting is a specialized cleaning method that uses controlled, high-pressure water to break through grease, sludge, roots, and stubborn buildup inside eligible drain and sewer lines. It is intended to clean the pipe walls more thoroughly than a basic cable pass when the type of obstruction and the pipe’s condition make jetting appropriate.
Not every slow drain requires hydro jetting. A blockage affecting one sink, tub, shower, or toilet may first call for localized drain cleaning or rooter service. When several fixtures back up or a main line is obstructed, broader sewer and drain cleaning may be needed.
Before recommending hydro jetting, a technician may use a sewer camera inspection to locate the obstruction and evaluate the pipe. This helps determine whether jetting is suitable or whether damaged pipe needs a different solution.
How does hydro jetting work?
A hydro jetting system sends water through a heavy-duty hose and specialized nozzle. Forward-facing jets can help penetrate an obstruction, while rear-facing jets propel the nozzle through the line and wash loosened debris toward an access point.
The technician adjusts the equipment and pressure for the pipe and blockage being treated. The goal is to remove accumulated material from the interior walls and restore flow without treating every clog the same way.
Hydro jetting can be useful for heavy grease, recurring buildup, certain root intrusion, and other stubborn main-line obstructions. It does not repair cracks, collapse, offset joints, or severe deterioration, so inspection remains important when symptoms return.
