Pipe Bursting is preferable when pipes are degraded. The benefit of this process is that it leaves you with a brand new, stronger sewer line.
The process entails pulling a HDPE (polyethylene) pipe of equal diameter into the existing pipe. Prior to starting the project, two access holes are excavated. Typically, in front of the house where the sewer pipe is located and second at the property line. A steel cable is fed through the old sewer pipe and bursting head and HDPE pipe are connected to the end of the cable. The winch system is setup in the pit pulling the specially designed bursting head through the old pipe. During this process the bursting head breaks apart the old pipe and pulling along the brand-new pipe in its place until it reaches the second access hole.
Once the new polyethylene sewer pipe is installed each end is reconnected to the existing sewer line using all city approved materials. After the pipe has been reconnected, we will backfill the access holes. The result: a new pipe where the old one was- all without digging a trench. Typical residential Pipe Bursting projects are completed in a single day. High-density polyethylene pipe delivers strong, long-lasting performance. Conservatively expected to last 50-100 years by the Plastic Pipe Institute.
